Portions of AR 670-1 are punitive. Violations may result in adverse administrative action and/or charges under the UCMJ. Only uniforms, accessories, and insignia prescribed in this regulation or approved by HQDA may be worn. No item may be altered in a way that changes its basic design or appearance.

Procedures for recommending changes to Army uniforms are found in DA Pam 670-1. Proposals to change or add uniforms, accessories, or wear policies must be evaluated by Commanders of ACOMs, ASCCs, and DRUs before submission to HQDA.

The ASA (ALT) and CG, AMC are responsible for the Uniform Quality Control Program (UQCP), ensuring PEO Soldier and CCDC Soldier Center prepare specifications, certify manufacturers, and monitor compliance for optional uniform items.
