AR 670-1: 14-1. Authorization for wear

The AGSU is authorized for year-round wear by all personnel. When prescribed by CTA 50-900, the AGSU is worn as a personal clothing item.

The AGSU includes coat, slacks, skirt (optional for females), shirt, necktie, belt, headgear, footwear, and socks. Variations are Class A (all components), Class B (no coat; necktie optional with short-sleeve shirt), and Dress (four-in-hand necktie after retreat; no combat boots or organizational items).

The AGSU may be worn on and off duty, at official and social functions such as memorial services, funerals, weddings, and ceremonies. Commercial travel is authorized. It may not be worn in establishments that primarily sell alcohol for on-premises consumption.

The heritage tan 566 shirt is a clothing bag issue item in 65/35 polyester-cotton. A tie is required with the long-sleeved shirt worn as an outer garment; optional with the short-sleeved shirt.

The optional heritage green service cap is a unisex, military-style peaked cap with a heritage walnut 567 leather visor, rigid standing front, and cap cover matching the coat. The garrison cap is the primary AGSU headgear unless the commander directs the beret. Headgear is not required when wearing the dress variation to formal evening social functions after retreat.

The AGSU consists of a heritage green 564 coat, heritage taupe 565 trousers or slacks, optional skirt (female), heritage tan 566 shirt, heritage green necktie, and heritage walnut 567 belt. Class A includes the coat; Class B omits it but requires the necktie with the long-sleeved shirt as an outer garment. The dress variation is not authorized with combat boots or brassards.

Authorized insignia on the AGSU includes aiguillette (officers, Class A only), branch insignia, decorations and ribbons (Class A only), DUI/RDI (not for general officers), grade insignia, SSI, overseas service bars, and service stripes. No nameplate is worn. Miniature medals are not authorized on the dress variation. Metal badges and tabs are not authorized on the Class B.

The AGSU is intended for most duty, nonfield, and travel occasions. Both Class A and B are authorized year-round based on weather and formality. Shirts are tucked in to form a gig line. Only beret-authorized Soldiers, MPs on duty, and air assault-coded personnel may blouse trousers with brown leather combat boots.

The heritage green 564 coat is single-breasted with peak lapels, a bi-swing back with center vent, and a detachable waist belt. Officers have sleeve braid; enlisted sleeves are plain.

Trousers (male) are straight-legged without cuffs with a freedom fit waistband and side and hip pockets. Slacks (female) have belt loops, side seam pockets, and hidden coin pocket. Both in heritage taupe 565 gabardine.

The optional AGSU skirt is a dress type in heritage taupe 565 with a center front stylized seam, inverted box pleat at center back, and an in-the-seam ID pocket on the right front yoke. It is worn between 1 inch above and 2 inches below the midpoint of the knee, with the back vent not less than 5 inches long.
