AR 670-1: 6-1. Authorization for wear

The aircrew uniform is authorized for year-round wear by aircrew members, as specified in CTA 50–900, when pre- scribed by the commander. See DA Pam 670–1 for uniforms currently classified as aircrew uniforms.

The aircrew uniform consists of a coat, trousers, undershirt, undergarments, belt, socks, boots, and headgear.

The aircrew uniform is worn on duty when prescribed by the commander for flight operations and may be worn off-post. It is not authorized in establishments primarily selling alcohol, not appropriate for off-installation social functions, and not appropriate for parades, reviews, or ceremonies.

The Army Aircrew Combat Uniform (A2CU) in OCP is a daily work, utility, and field uniform for aircrew members. The Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble (FREE) provides modular, flame-resistant protection for aviators and CVC.

FREE components: Jackets (light/intermediate/extreme weather), trousers (light/intermediate/extreme weather), undershirts (underlayer/base layer/mid-weight fleece), vest, parka with liner, boxer briefs, and drawers - all in foliage green.

FREE is made of Nomex®, flame-resistant rayon, wool, nylon, and Lycra for maximum flame protection.

FREE is for flight/combat vehicle crews. Slightly loose fit required (no alterations). Jackets worn outside pants. Sleeves down at all times. NOT authorized to blouse trousers. SSI/badges removed before flight line entry (unless sewn on).

Key A2CU rules: Tan 499 undershirt, rigger belt, and coyote boots authorized. All pockets closed at all times. Patrol cap worn when not performing flight duties. Sleeves always down (never rolled). No starch. Pin-on badges removed before flight line entry.

The A2CU coat is worn OUTSIDE trousers for all duties including flight. Sleeves always down (not rolled/cuffed). Coat length: not below cargo pocket top, not above side pocket bottom. Undershirt tucked in at all times.

A2CU trousers have 9 pockets with specific closures. NOT authorized to blouse during flight crew duties. When not flying: tuck into boots or blouse with hook-and-pile straps. No pegged appearance. When bloused, trousers won't extend below 3rd eyelet.
